Iragi opened the meeting with prayer.

Elin: Specialized profiles are recommended by Upwork to help increase your visibility to potential customers. When you have a general profile, you can create a second, specialized profile which is focused on a set of specialized skills. This will help market your skills on Upwork. Here are tips on improving your profile. Great profiles help win jobs. Creating a specialized profile allows you to stand out on Upwork. 

      • Put two to three specific skills in your Title. For example, if you are a translator, put the languages that you can translate in the title. It will allow clients who are looking for those language translations to find you. Your profile title on Upwork could read: ”French-Swahili-English translator”. When someone searches those terms, they can more easily find your profile.    
      • Specialized profiles help increase visibility to potential clients.   
      • You can have up to three profiles on Upwork.  
      • For your Summary, write 2-4 paragraphs with a focus on your specific skills, expertise, type of platform/software, specialties and strengths. Focus on the first sentence of your Summary, because it will appear in client search. The first 2 lines will be visible in the profile preview. The preview is what gets the prospective client to click through to your full description.  
      • Research the Title and Summary of top-rated freelancers working in your field.  
      • Review your past jobs. Where have you had success and good reviews?    
      • Use all 15 keywords, make sure they reflect your skills.  
      • Make sure there are no typos or grammatical errors. Ask someone in your network to review.  
      • Demonstrate your expertise by adding Certifications to your profile. 

Greg: My prayer for you is that you will find a job that will last for many years. Trust is a large part of receiving multiple jobs from the same client. Responding to emails, meeting deadlines, and communicating well builds trust.  

Greg: Why do you think, Elin, that Upwork is moving to specialized profiles? 

Elin: Upwork is very competitive and sharing your specialized skills can help you get noticed.  

Greg: For example, Legrand has very specialized knowledge of some software. There are not many people on Upwork that have those specialized skills. He has a specialized profile for his skills in software. He also has skills in research. He has a separate, specialized profile for those skills. Also, Philemon has website development and translation listed on his profile. Those specialized skills would need two different profiles.  

Philemon: How does a client see the correct profile when you apply to a job? 

Elin: All of your profiles are connected to your general profile. Once a client searches for specific skills, they will see the specialized profile that relates to their specific search. 

Legrand: When one applies for a job, Upwork will ask if you’d like to use the general profile or the specialized profile to apply.  

We encourage EHI participants to take online courses to enhance their specialized skills and to obtain online certifications. Certifications are a great way to show off your skills and qualifications on your Upwork profile. Certifications also demonstrate your competence to a client and will help attract the largest number of clients. 

Bible Verse

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 

(NIV) But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 

(LSG) et il m’a dit: Ma grâce te suffit, car ma puissance s’accomplit dans la faiblesse. Je me glorifierai donc bien plus volontiers de mes faiblesses, afin que la puissance de Christ repose sur moi. C’est pourquoi je me plais dans les faiblesses, dans les outrages, dans les calamités, dans les persécutions, dans les détresses, pour Christ; car, quand je suis faible, c’est alors que je suis fort. 

Greg: In the Bible, Paul was a pioneer. He went to many places in Asia and Europe to share the good news of Jesus Christ with many, many, many people. No one else was doing that, and that’s what made him a pioneer. I suspect that no one else in Bukavu is doing Upwork, except this group of people. So you are pioneers. The problem with pioneers is that it is very difficult at times to be a pioneer. You encounter difficulties and problems, and you have to figure out how to solve them. You can’t ask your friends to help you solve it because they have no experience on Upwork. We have these calls to make it a little easier to be successful on Upwork, and for you to work together to solve these problems.  

Paul had some kind of problem that he asked Jesus three times for it to go away. We are going to read what Jesus said to him. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 reads, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’” Jesus said his power shows up when we are weak.  

There are lots of times in my business where I feel weak, and Jesus is going to help me if I ask him. We see that in Paul too. He says, I am going to boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.  

As you encounter difficulties on Upwork, my prayer is that the power of Christ may dwell in you and help you overcome those difficulties. 

Philemon: I am encouraged that when we ask for help, we get strength from Jesus Christ.
